Winter Is For Warmth (Warm Chicken Salad Recipe Below)

It can be really easy to allow the world we live in to disconnect us from the natural rhythms in the life the Lord Yeshua designed for us. Unfortunately, that can drastically slow down our healing process and cause us to stay out of balance. Learning to follow circadian health can make such a huge difference in whatever healing path you may be on. This is incredibly important for women to take note of this time and lean into it.
In the cooler seasons, especially in winter, our bodies are calling us to keep warm. Hats on our heads, slippers on our feet, cozy sweaters, and scarves around our necks. The Lord provided us the sun during the day and fire for night. Go out during the day and get the early morning light. It will energize you for your day. If you can, go for a walk outside bundled up after breakfast. Then for a midday pick me up, skip the coffee and get some sunlight around lunch time in your eyes. It doesn’t take much, just 10-15 minutes. Then for sweet sleep towards the end of the day peek at the sunset for another 10 to 15 minutes. Then put on some blue light glasses (Use discount code KHW to save 10%) after you come inside and protect your eyes and hormones from improper signaling from devices and overhead lighting. Light is a huge component to metabolic function.
Many of us don’t get the luxury of sitting by an actual fire these days, but if you do, it’s extremely healing to the body. The red light of the fire is soothing and sets the tone for healthy rest. Our Abba gave us winter for rest. He gave foods with natural warmth like root vegetables, meats, and spices like cinnamon and ginger to keep us warm. He provided fire to cook our foods with as well. Cooked foods provide a warming energy in and of themselves. In fact even when you take a cooler food or food you wouldn’t ordinarily eat during that season locally, but cook it, there’s a transformation there of heat. So now is the time for broths, soups, stews, hot teas, and warm salads. This is not the time for indulging in colder foods like cold salads, smoothies, ice cream, or iced beverages.
I’d like to share a simple warm salad I’ve been making on repeat around here. I’ve been enjoying it so much for lunches or dinners. You can increase the recipe if you’re making it for more than one person. You can switch up ingredients too. I make a whole chicken every week so I can have homemade meat stock and the chicken to use for meals. Use the best ingredients you can afford whatever that may be. Pray over your meal and add lots of love!
Warm Chicken Salad Recipe
4 oz Organic Pastured Cooked Shredded Chicken Breast
3-4 Organic Brussel Sprouts, sliced
1-2 Tbsp Grass Fed Organic Ghee ( I like the Pure Indian Foods Brand, I get it from Azure Standard: use this link with code NEW15 for your first order)
2 Tbsp Homemade or Store Brought Meat Stock or Bone Broth (Two good store-bought brands are Roli Roti in the refrigerated section or Bonafide in the freezer section)
1/4 Cup Organic Frozen Bell Peppers ( I used the organic fajita blend from Sprouts)
1/2 Cup Cooked Organic Golden Beets, cubed (red beets work too)
A Sprinkle of Organic Garlic Granules/Powder
1/4 Tsp Baja Gold Sea Salt (Use discount code: KHW)
Organic White Pepper to taste (or black pepper)
1 oz Crumbled Organic Sheep Feta (I buy it at Costco, I crumble it myself, the pre-crumbled kind has chemicals in it causing it no to stick together)
A Drizzle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (I like the California Olive Branch 100% California for Everyday Cooking option; they have 3 different olive oils so I wanted to specify)
Optional: 1-2 Tbsp Lacto-Fermented Sauerkraut
Directions:
Melt the ghee in the pan in between low to medium heat. Add the sliced Brussel Sprouts to the pan and saute for 2 minutes. Add the salt and meat stock or broth to help soften the Brussels faster. Next toss in the frozen bell peppers. Soften the peppers, then add the cooked beets. The beets are already cooked so we are basically just warming them up. Next add in the garlic granules/powder as well as the white pepper and mix well. Finally in the pan add the cooked shredded or if you prefer cubed chicken breast. Mix everything up well and add to a salad bowl. Top and mix in the feta cheese and sauerkraut. Drizzle with the olive oil. If you wanted to you could also squeeze some fresh orange or lemon juice on it.
