Lotion Bars

When our family did a makeover with our health and home routines, what we ate, the products we used around the home, etc 14 years ago, I began learning how to make my own body care products. I’d even began a small natural body care line. At the time a favorite of my customers were the lotion bars.

Over the weekend we were invited to a surprise birthday party for my sister-in-law. I wanted to bring her something special she could use just for her that would pamper her. She works really hard and has the sweetest heart. I love her so much. I immediately thought of the lotion bars.

They are super easy to make, low in PUFAs, and you use them just like liquid lotions to hold moisture in your skin, but instead of a pump to get some out of a bottle, you just simply rub them on the skin. I highly recommend getting items that you’d eat rather than body care brands. For one they will cost less money, for two the quality will most likely be better being food grade. It’s difficult to say how many this will make because it really depends on the size of your mold. Watch the reel on Instagram to see how it’s made.

Lotion Bar Recipe & Tools Needed

94 grams Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil

10 grams Organic Liquid Coconut Oil

88 grams Organic Cocoa Butter

56 grams Beeswax

Optional: Dried flowers like chamomile, rose, or lavender (These just make them extra fancy. You just need enough to drop in the bottom of the mold. You just sprinkle them in. I highly recommend getting them from Mountain Rose Herbs. Use the code RoseLove15 through our link to save 15% thru 02/28)

4 Cup Glass Pyrex Measuring Cup

Small Pot (Large enough for the measuring up to fit inside)

Food Scale

Disposable Stirring Stick

Decorative Molds

Instructions:

Combine the oils, butter, and wax in the Pyrex dish, put the dish into the small stainless steel pot with some water. What you are doing here is creating a double boiler. If you have one, feel free to use it instead. Turn up to medium heat and bring the water to a boil. Try not to let it splash into the Pyrex dish. Your goal here is to melt everything in the dish. Use your disposable stirring stick to help the process along. While you are waiting for everything to melt, and you opted to use the dry flowers, sprinkle some in the bottom of each mold. You don’t need much. You can omit them.

Once everything is melted turn off the heat. Immediately, pour the liquid into the molds. Give it time to solidify. Don’t remove for at least an hour so it has time to cool and set. You can store them in a pretty jar or even a reusable soap case. They also look lovely on a dish. Unless it is very hot, these should just fine at room temperature.

Use them just after a shower, and only lightly towel off so to lock in that nice moisture on the skin. They are nice after washing your hands as well.
